Society details: Pelican Poets and Writers
Contact: Catherine Olver
Do you read for fun? This literary society invites Corpuscles of all disciplines and levels to chat about poetry and prose in a relaxing atmosphere. For each session, a volunteer curates a themed selection of poems and extracts for us to read together and discuss (so there’s no need to read anything in advance). Past themes have included borders, machines, silence, mental instability, memory, obscenity, history, jazz, and revelry in literature.
Set up in 2009, PPW is now taking place in either D4, New Court or the Life Fellows room in Old Court. Sessions run from 8pm to 10pm on three evenings each term. Meetings are attended primarily by undergraduates, graduates and fellows of the college and their guests, but all members of the university are welcome.
PPW also holds a Writers’ Evening once a year. These bring together Corpus students who have been secretly scribbling in their garrets to exchange ideas, listen to one another’s writing, and talk about matters connected with the practice of the art. Practitioners of other arts are welcome, as are all interested students, critics, readers and listeners.
