JCR Committee: Harry Jones
2016–17: LBGT+ Officer
In-depth Role:
(a) Attend CUSU LGBT+ Meetings
- Publicising upcoming events that may be of interest to Corpus students
- Representing the concerns of Corpus students (please be in touch so I can stay informed, happy to receive any concerns, big or small that you want to forward to CUSU)
(b) Organize events for LGBT+ students
- Twice termly LGBTea (except for Easter term)
- Film screenings
- Educational workshops in Michaelmas
- Other events (definitely open to suggestions, should be LGBT related (or beneficial to LGBT students) but anyone, regardless of self-identity is encouraged to suggest events)
(c) Represent LGBT+ students? welfare to College
- This includes being available to talk to as part of the general Welfare team, I have been through a lot at Cambridge (both LGBT related and otherwise) and am happy to offer advice and support
- Also, please get in touch with any questions about LGBT issues you may have (including those who don’t self-define within this label), it’s always good to be informed
(d) Assist the Male & Female Welfare Officers in sexual health provisions
- Pretty self-explanatory
Finally I want to add, never suffer in silence! Myself and the Welfare team in general have experience of studying in Cambridge and the struggles that sometimes come with it, and a heart-to-heart with shared experiences can do wonders and put your mind at ease, as well as (where appropriate) supporting your access to other services (both within and outside of College). Your well-being should always come first and we are here for a reason, talk to us :)
