JCR Committee: Camille Savinien

2010–11: Female Welfare Officer

Hello everyone! I’m Camille, the female welfare officer for 2010-2011.
Everyone knows that Cambridge can be quite stressful at times. Therefore, if you ever need to chat, a cup of tea or if you have simply run out of biscuits, I live in Y2 so don’t hesitate to pop in! I’m here precisely for that and all that you tell me will remain strictly private.

My role is mainly to:

  • Listen to you and to help you find the right person to deal with your specific problem.
  • Raise sexual health awareness.
  • Provide you with cheap discounted condoms, femidoms, dental dams, free pregnancy and Chlamydia tests, leaflets aplenty (drugs, alcohol, pregnancy, STIs, mental health, self harm, stress, eating disorders, we’ve got everything).
  • Organise freshers’ week with Rob and James.
  • Organise welfare events to give you an occasion to relax.
  • Promote gender equality within college.

What I would like to do—I think it is going to be quite similar to Rob’s aims:

  • Insist on the importance of getting sexual health screenings.
  • Target problems for each term: alcohol in Michaelmas (freshers’ term…), exam stress in Easter, etc.
  • Keep the welfare board updated in the JCR.
  • Put more practical information on both the JCR website and the welfare board.

A few things to remember:

  • To order condoms and the like, fill up a slip in one of the welfare pigeon holes and we will put your order in your pigeon hole or anywhere else you like if you want to keep it anonymous. There is also a condom vending machine that will be fixed shortly.
  • The list of prices for condoms and the like will be updated and put up on the website shortly.
  • To book a sexual health screening: www.sexualhealthcambs.nhs.uk. It’s free and anonymous.
  • You can get free HIV and Chlamydia tests from Trumpington medical practice. Just book an appointment. It’s also free and anonymous. Nothing is worth running the risk of Aids or sterility.
  • On each toilet door, there is a list of numbers to call help lines to deal with specific problems. Those people are trained to deal with them and to give you help and advice.

2011–12: Vice-President

Hello!

I am a second-year historian (cos there just aren’t enough of us in the committee…) and your JCR’s Vice-President until Easter 2011. The blurb above describes it all, but to sum it up, I am basically James’s faithful lieutenant. So if you have any question, don’t hesitate to e-mail me (cs563) or catch me around college.

My aims this year involve:
• Liaising with CUSU to ensure that we take the most informed decision possible regarding our affiliation.
• Increase attendance to Open Meetings by improving the communication around them.

All in all, I’m here for you so really don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any question regarding the JCR or college, or if there’s anything you’d like the committee to act upon. I am a historian and therefore I have few lectures, of which I attend even fewer, so I do have plenty of time…
